French Toast

Ingredients

 

The Batter:

  • 1 cup unsweetened milk of your choice
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp ground flaxseeds
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp @risingstarbaking Cinnamon Baker's Syrup
  • 1 tbsp @risingstarbaking Vanilla Bean Paste
  • 2 tsp maple syrup

The Rest:

  • 6-8 slices brioche or other thick quality bread
  • 2 cups mixed berries (frozen or fresh) + 1/4 cup sugar + orange zest (for compote)
  • butter for frying

 

Instructions

  1. Compote: Simmer berries, sugar, and zest in a pot for 10 mins until thick.

  2. Batter: Whisk all batter ingredients in a wide bowl until smooth. 

  3. Dip bread for 10 seconds per side. In a skillet, add butter and melt over a med-high heat. Fry each piece for 2-3 mins per side until golden.

  4. Serve on a plate then top with compote, maple syrup, and powdered sugar. Enjoy!
